Which career path is right for you?

You've decided to train for a new career, but how do you determine which potential career is right for you? You should begin by asking yourself the following questions:

1. What knowledge, skills, and/or abilities do I currently possess?
If you and power tools don't get along, training for a career in the trades cluster (building construction or automotive technology, for example) would probably not be the best choice. On the other hand, if you have a fair amount of knowledge of and/or skills using computers or other electronic devices, training in one of the programs in our information technology cluster may be perfect for you.

2. What are my physical limitations?
If you have physical limitations, such as a limit in movement or color blindness, these will be important influences on your choice of a future career.

3. What are my psychological preferences?
If you prefer to work outdoors, you wouldn't want to train for a career that will keep you chained to a desk for 40 hours per week.

4. What am I interested in learning and doing?
Your interests should play a primary role in determining which career path would be right for you. The more interest a person has, the more enjoyable the training.

Look over the potential careers listed below and then take a few minutes to investigate the individual programs in each of the clusters. There is something here for everyone!
