A unique facility in our area, this “astronomical laboratory” uses a multi-sensory approach to engage students of all ages and ability levels in multidisciplinary learning. Service is provided on a program-by-program basis to groups of up to 55 participants at a time.

All presentations are carefully customized to consider the special needs of each group and provide a laboratory experience that can reinforce and extend what is being taught by the teacher. The role of the classroom teacher in planning with the Planetarium teacher is essential.

The planetarium’s specialized equipment makes it possible to illustrate important concepts that are not easily shown in the classroom. The planetarium has as its goal, the progressive integration of the key science concepts appropriate to each age level, culminating in achievement of the science literacy necessary for successful completion of the regents exam in earth science. Each year, beginning with pre-k, students will incrementally expand their knowledge and appreciation for the universe around them.
