Herkimer BOCES, Central Valley postpone
public vote on proposed building purchase

Nov. 3, 2017

The Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES and Central Valley school boards voted Thursday, Nov. 2, to indefinitely postpone the public vote on the proposed Herkimer BOCES purchase of the Remington school building from Central Valley.

The vote had been scheduled for Nov. 14, but was postponed for further review of potential impacts of the purchase such as use of the fields behind the building.

Both boards are developing an eight-year extension to the current one-year lease, which runs into August 2018.
If the eight-year lease is approved at future meetings of both boards, Herkimer BOCES would have access to the Remington school building into August 2026. This would provide stability to the Herkimer BOCES school-aged and adult education programs located at the Remington school building while the vote on the building purchase is postponed.

Last school year at the Remington school building, almost 160 school-aged children attended Herkimer BOCES alternative and special education programs, and 475 adult Herkimer BOCES students received education including nursing training and preparation to receive high-school equivalency diplomas. Additionally, offices located in the building support the education of 860 students throughout the region.
