VP-TECH students pose on stairway at Danfoss tour

Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Valley Pathways in Technology Early College High School seniors toured a potential future employer for them on Jan. 8 by visiting Danfoss Silicon Power.

VP-TECH focuses on technology, project-based learning and real-world work situations. Students can spend four to six years in the program to earn a Regents diploma, an associate degree in quality assurance from Herkimer College for free, a certification in advanced manufacturing and connections with local businesses.

Danfoss Silicon Power is a technology company, located on the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Utica Campus. The company leads the industry for customized power modules for automotive (batteries for Tesla vehicles), solar, wind and industrial applications. Employees from Danfoss also mentor VP-TECH students once a month. During the mentoring program, they discuss a variety of subjects, such as professionalism in the workplace, interviewing, how to write a resume, the importance of extracurricular activities in high school and social media etiquette.
