ILION – The Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Pathways Academy will be closed to all students and staff on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in response to a confirmed positive case of COVID-19.

All non-quarantined Pathways Academy staff and students may return to in-person instruction beginning Wednesday, Oct. 14.

All other Herkimer BOCES programs should follow regular schedules because their programs and locations are not impacted.

“Herkimer BOCES is cooperating with the Herkimer County Department of Public Health as this case is investigated and contact tracing takes place,” Herkimer BOCES District Superintendent Sandra Sherwood said. “We appreciate their guidance and stand ready to provide any information necessary, as the health and safety of students and staff remains our top priority.”

The Herkimer County Department of Public Health notified Herkimer BOCES of the confirmed positive case on Monday, Oct. 12, and Herkimer BOCES made the decision to close for the day on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in consultation with the department.

Public Health is starting the contact tracing process and will determine who among the staff and students needs to be quarantined or take any follow-up steps.

The Pathways Academy at the Remington Educational Complex in Ilion will be sanitized and disinfected on Tuesday, Oct. 13. All classrooms also are regularly cleaned and sanitized every day.

As applicable, families and staff members at Pathways Academy will be directly contacted by Herkimer County Public Health. Further information and announcements will be provided as updates are available.
