Herkimer BOCES Open House - March 13, 2019
The Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES 2019 Open House takes place from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at the William E. Busacker Complex at 352 Gros Blvd. in Herkimer.
Students, families and community members are welcome to attend the Open House to visit Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and the Valley Pathways in Technology Early College High School (VP-TECH). Attendees can visit classrooms, talk with instructors, view demonstrations and more. Representatives will be in attendance from local colleges, local businesses and Working Solutions.
Students from the following component school districts are eligible to attend Herkimer BOCES programs:
- Central Valley
- Little Falls
- Mount Markham
- Owen D. Young
- Richfield Springs
- West Canada Valley
Herkimer BOCES offers the following CTE programs, which students take as high-school juniors and seniors:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Automotive Technology
- Building Construction
- Criminal Justice
- Child and Family Services
- Health Science Careers
- Heavy Equipment
- Information Technology Academy (Network Administration)
- Outdoor Power Equipment
- Visual Communications Media Arts
- Welding and Metal Fabrication Technology
Herkimer BOCES CTE programs have articulation agreements for college credits in place with 24 post-secondary institutions, and it is recommended that all CTE students complete a minimum of a two-week job shadowing internship in a related career field.
VP-TECH is in its fourth year of operation. VP-TECH students start in ninth grade and spend four to six years in the program – leaving with a Regents diploma, an associate degree in quality assurance from Herkimer College, a certification in advanced manufacturing and connections with local businesses.
