Q. What led you to your current position at Herkimer BOCES?

A. Well, I've  worked in cleaning since 2014. I started out at food grade oil factory Sovena as a night cleaner. From there, I continued jobs that were similar. Until about two years ago, I started for CVA here locally and then took the custodian exam to better myself. From there, I became aware of a position at BOCES for custodian, and here we are today.

Q. What do you find rewarding about working in your current position?

A. Well, cleaning is one of many cogs in the machine to keep us up and running smoothly. I'm happy knowing I'm doing my part to the best of my abilities.

-

Q. When did you first know you wanted to work in this field and what made you feel that way?

A. Well, I've always liked things to be clean and organized. As I got older, I realized there's always a need for cleaners. We are an essential job so to speak, so I guess since I was younger, and it's an honest living.

Q. What do you think makes Herkimer BOCES special?

A. I believe Herkimer BOCES gives kids and/or students from many walks of life an opportunity to see real-life experiences first-hand, as well as others, to expand their knowledge through courses and whatnot – which is truly special if you ask me.

-

Q. What value do you believe Herkimer BOCES provides for students and/or the community?

A. I believe there is tremendous value in Herkimer BOCES – between the special education department, family services and great opportunities students have to better themselves. It's an awesome place.
