Visual Communications SkillsUSA national champion students at national competition

Three Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Visual Communications Media Arts students teamed up to win a national championship at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, which took place from Monday, June 19, to Friday, June 23, in Atlanta.

Little Falls senior Madison Battisti, Poland senior Jolene Manipole and Frankfort-Schuyler senior Corey Wohler won the SkillsUSA national championship in the Promotional Bulletin Board competition. The students qualified for the national competition by winning the state championship in the Promotional Bulletin Board competition during the SkillsUSA New York State Leadership and Skills Conference from April 26-28 at the Syracuse Fairgrounds.

The students created their bulletin board as a class project under the advisement of Herkimer BOCES Visual Communications Media Arts instructor Melinda Maycock. The Herkimer BOCES SkillsUSA co-advisors are Cosmetology instructor Holly Rotundo Fischer and Cosmetology teaching assistant Sarah Jacquays-Alberts.

Herkimer BOCES Cosmetology student McKenzie Schuster, a junior of West Canada Valley, also advanced to the national conference by winning the SkillsUSA state championship in the Customer Service competition. At the national conference, Schuster placed in the top 10 in the Customer Service competition.
