WEST WINFIELD – Mount Markham Central School District has launched a search for a new superintendent of schools following a recent announcement by Superintendent Paul Berry that he will be resigning and retiring as of July 31.

Berry formally announced his intentions in a Jan. 7 letter to the Mount Markham Board of Education. In the letter, Berry, who has been the Mount Markham superintendent since November 2015, thanked past and present board members, school administration, faculty, staff, students, parents and community members.

“It has been an honor to serve and become a member of this school community,” Berry said, in the letter.

Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES District Superintendent Sandra Sherwood is leading the superintendent search on behalf of the Mount Markham Board of Education. The superintendent search brochure and application are available at www.herkimer-boces.org and will soon be added to www.mmcsd.org.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 14. Initial interviews and selection of candidates will take place from February to March. Board of Education and stakeholder interviews are expected to occur in March and April, leading to a final decision by the board. It’s anticipated that the new superintendent will start on Aug. 1, stepping in the day after Berry leaves the position.
