The 22nd annual Herkimer Region College & Career Scholarship Foundation Golf Tournament raised more than $13,000 to provide scholarships to local students.
Twenty-three teams participated in the tournament on Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, at the Cedar Lake Club in Clayville. Funds raised from the tournament go to students pursuing college or employment in their field of study following a vocational education in high school.
Next year’s tournament is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Aug. 10, 2026. The Herkimer Region College & Career Scholarship Foundation is a not-for-profit community scholarship foundation. A group of local citizens from many professions works voluntarily to generate scholarship funds for graduates of technical programs in the region and adult nursing students. To date, the foundation has provided about 394 scholarships – totaling about $233,550.
The foundation supports students at Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES and its 10 component school districts: Central Valley, Dolgeville, Frankfort-Schuyler, Herkimer, Little Falls, Mount Markham, Owen D. Young, Poland, Richfield Springs and West Canada Valley. There are also scholarships for students in the Herkimer BOCES Adult Practical Nursing Program.
The Day Automation Systems Inc. No. 5 (BOCES) team won the 2025 golf tournament overall and won the Challenger’s Cup for lowest score among school teams. The members of that team at Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES District Superintendent D.J. Shepardson, Brayden Shepardson, Nolan Shepardson and Colton Suriano.
Team Grogan won first place for mixed teams, Poland Central School District’s team won second place for mixed teams, Team Tucker won first place for men’s teams, Day Automation Systems Inc. No. 3 (CVA) won second place for men’s teams and Day & Read Insurance won third place for men’s teams.
Michelle VanSlyke from Team Grogan won the women’s longest drive competition and the women’s closest to the pin competition. Chris Stone from West Canada Valley Central School District’s team won the men’s longest drive competition, and Chuck Chafee from Team NYSIR won the men’s closest to the pin competition.
For other prizes and raffles, Jesse Marosek won the 50/50 raffle, and Pia Nichols won Syracuse University tickets donated by Gehring Tricot Corp. and a custom fire pit crafted and donated by the Herkimer BOCES Welding and Metal Fabrication program.
