SkillsUSA students and advisors at SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Confernece

Four Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Career and Technical Education students participated in a variety of activities at the SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference from Nov. 2-4 at the Desmond Hotel in Albany.

The three-day event was filled with activities and workshops where students participated and collaborated with more than 250 SkillsUSA students from throughout New York state.

The Herkimer BOCES students who participated were Poland Central School District student Juliana Antonuk, Little Falls City School District student Isabella Burton and West Canada Valley students Savanah Symonds and Mikayla Synakowski. The four students all take the Herkimer BOCES Cosmetology program. The Herkimer BOCES SkillsUSA advisors who attended were Holly Fisher, Sarah Jaquays and Melinda Maycock.

Students were able to attend sessions where they developed community service and public relations initiatives to benefit their local chapter. A highlight of the event was a tour of the New York State Capitol building. Students also participated in a community service project which benefited the Albany Fund for Education.

SkillsUSA advisors said the conference provided a valuable opportunity for students to network, exchange ideas and strengthen their leadership abilities.
