Three students pose wearing award medals at HOSA conference

Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Health Science Careers students placed in two different competitions at the recent New York State HOSA Spring Leadership Conference, and one student advanced to the next level.

Health Science Careers junior Alanna Burkhart, from Herkimer Central School District, won third place in the Job Seeking Skills event and was invited to compete at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in June in Indianapolis.

Burkhart also teamed up with Health Science Careers classmates Sabrina Balderston, from Herkimer Central School District, and Wiley Liddell, from Little Falls City School District, to win second place in the Anatomage Tournament at the state conference. An Anatomage Table allows students to use a life-sized digital touch screen to virtually explore and dissect human and animal bodies using 3D models created from real medical scans.

The HOSA Spring Leadership Conference took place from March 24-26 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Syracuse. During the conference, Herkimer BOCES Health Science Careers students participated in competitions and learned about leadership for health professionals.

HOSA, formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America, describes itself as “a global student-led organization, whose mission is to promote career opportunities in the health industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.”
