A team of Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Conservation students recently won first place in the regional Envirothon and will advance to the state competition.
The members of the winning team are Connor Cowan (Poland), Nathaniel Haley (Poland), Caileigh Youker (Dolgeville), Kacie Owen (Mount Markham) and Cooper Jordan (Herkimer).
“The Envirothon challenges students in areas including forestry, wildlife, aquatics, soils and current environmental issues, while promoting teamwork and problem-solving skills,” Herkimer BOCES Conservation instructor William Carpenter said. “The team’s strong performance at the regional level highlighted their dedication, preparation and knowledge of natural resource conservation.”
The Herkimer County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted its 32nd annual regional Envirothon on Wednesday, May 6, at Herkimer College.
By winning first place in the regional event, the Herkimer BOCES Conservation students will compete at the 2026 New York State Envirothon taking place May 27-28 at SUNY Cortland.
