Four people, a kitten and two cat-themed flower boxes

The Trade Industries class at the Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Pathways Academy recently decided to give back by building two cat-themed flower boxes for the 4PetSake Food Pantry in Mohawk.

Pathways Academy student Michael Grecco, from Herkimer Central School District, built both flower boxes with the help of Trade Industries teacher Adam Spatto and teaching assistant Cheri Evangelista.

It was important to them to support an organization that helps both students and the community, Evangelista said.

4PetSake Food Pantry is a major donator for the Pathways Academy yearbook every year by placing an advertisement, and 4PetSake donated pallets this year to Trade Industries classes, so the classes could repurpose wood that would normally go to waste. 4PetSake Food Pantry also helps families and individuals in the community feed their pets and helps with the pet population by spaying and neutering families’ pets and feral animals that are homeless.

Spatto and Evangelista contacted 4PetSake President Kris Wilson and asked what they could build for the organization with the pallet wood, and they were given free reign. The cat-themed flower boxes were decided on to allow 4PetSake to either use them as decorations or raffle them off to raise money to support the organization’s efforts.

Wilson recently picked up the flower boxes and brought along a kitten that she recently rescued to show just one of the animals the donation could help.
