HERKIMER – The Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Board of Education has new leadership this school year.

During the Herkimer BOCES Board of Education’s annual reorganization meeting on Thursday, July 7, board members elected Michael Clements to his first one-year term as board president and Holly Pullis to her first one-year term as board vice president.

State Assemblyman Robert Smullen also attended the board meeting. Board members invited Smullen to thank him for recently securing $25,000 in grant funding for Herkimer BOCES workforce development programs.

Smullen congratulated Clements on being named the new board president and spoke about the benefits of the grant and BOCES.

“The Herkimer BOCES program is in great hands with its new board members and under the leadership of Michael Clements. I congratulate all the officers and instructors throughout the program for their dedication to our students’ success,” Smullen said. “This grant funding will be instrumental in providing more alternative career pathways and opportunities for good-paying jobs in local trade industries in the Mohawk Valley region, and I couldn’t be more proud to support our future skilled workers and tradesman.”

Clements served as Herkimer BOCES Board of Education vice president during the 2021-22 school year and is now starting his fifth year on the board. He represents Frankfort-Schuyler Central School District on the BOCES board and has been on the Frankfort-Schuyler board for the past eight years.

Pullis joined the Herkimer BOCES Board of Education in October 2021. She represents Owen D. Young Central School District on the BOCES board and has been on the Owen D. Young board since 2015.

Thomas Shypski served as the Herkimer BOCES Board of Education president for the past three school years. Shypski continues to represent Richfield Springs Central School District on the Herkimer BOCES board.

During the reorganization meeting, newly elected board member Travis Costin was sworn in. Re-elected board members Pullis, Samuel Luce and Janine Lynch were also sworn in. The board members were voted on by Herkimer BOCES component district school boards in April, and they were elected to three-year terms from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2025.

Costin, who represents Central Valley Central School District on the Herkimer BOCES board, replaces Jane North, who did not seek re-election. Luce represents Herkimer Central School District on the Herkimer BOCES board, and Lynch represents West Canada Valley Central School District.
